Lewes campus webcam offers view of osprey, turbine

Take in the sights of the University of Delaware's Hugh R. Sharp campus in Lewes via our live webcam! Views rotate between an active osprey nest, our shipyard, Roosevelt Inlet, the site of our new wind turbine, and our research labs.

Webcam viewers can watch osprey — large birds of prey that grow up to two feet long and with a six-foot wingspan — in their nest atop a man-made platform overlooking the inlet. This spot along the coast allows the osprey to easily hunt for fish, their favorite meal. The birds, which migrate each winter to southern locales such as the Caribbean and Brazil, return to their northern homes to mate and raise young in spring and summer.

Keep an eye on the webcam and you'll also see the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment's new wind turbine. Constructed this spring, the 400-foot turbine will supply energy for the Hugh R. Sharp Campus. Surplus energy created by the machine will be made available to the Lewes Board of Public Works and its customers.
