After more than 30 years, shellfish aquaculture has returned to Rehoboth and Indian River Bays, with the inaugural crop of Inland Bays Oysters going on sale in the fall of 2018. Since that time, more growers have entered the market, and local bivalves are becoming a popular southern Delaware delicacy.

These oysters represent decades of hard work and investment on the part of our partnership with the state’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and the Delaware Center for Inland Bays. We’ll continue to work with fishermen, state regulators, and citizens to keep that momentum going, and to explore promising new economic drivers in order to support sustainable fishing and promote safe seafood consumption.
