Seafood is the theme of October, and what better way to celebrate the bounty of the earth’s waters than to learn more about sustainable and healthy seafood?

Seafood is defined as being sustainable when the population of a species of fish is managed in a way that provides for today’s needs without damaging the ability of the species to reproduce and be available for future generations.

In Delaware, DESG is working with fishermen, state regulators, and citizens to keep the sustainability momentum going in Delaware’s fishing industry, developing progressive catch management policies and exploring promising new economic drivers like aquaculture. DESG also funds research on commercial-scale aquaculture, sustainable seafood, and seafood handling technology to keep our state's fishing industry at the leading edge of economic development and environmental responsibility.

Learn more about the research we support, as well as our efforts working with local fisheries.
