Have a full or half size crab pot that needs a little love? Bring it to Delaware Sea Grants’ Crab Pot Trap Check event to replace floats, rope, cull rings and/or terrapin excluders. You bring the pot (limit 2 per person), and we’ll provide the upgraded materials free of charge while supplies last. Staff will be available onsite to assist in securing new parts, provide some crabbing tips, and answer any questions you may have.
Improperly rigged crab pots can cause pots to be lost or inefficiently fished. These lost or derelict crab pots litter Delaware’s Inland Bays seafloor causing damage to boat propellers or accidentally trapping and killing wildlife. Do your part to prevent your crab pot from becoming lost, and make sure your pot has all the rights parts attached the right way!
Park entrance fees may apply. For more information about Delaware Sea Grant’s derelict crab pot initiatives, please visit our derelict crab pot page. For questions about the event or to secure your spot please contact Brittany Haywood at haywoobl@udel.edu. RSVP is appreciated, although not required.
