As the leaves fall from the trees and the colors recede, November can be a great time to view birds and other wildlife, like this Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias). The Great Blue Heron is the largest and most common heron found in North America. These towering birds are usually found near coastlines, in marshes, ponds, and streams, where they hunt in the shallows for fish, frogs and crayfish.

November is also a good time to visit Delaware’s two National Wildlife Refuges, Bombay Hook and Prime Hook, to see geese and freshwater ducks, as this month is the peak of waterfowl migration in the area.
